Josef Nesvadba's Peklo Beneš as counterfactual fiction. Narrative and thematic analysis

This bachelor thesis is focusing on narrative and thematic analysis of Josef Nesvadba's Peklo Beneš (2002). This bachelor thesis has introduction, three chapters and conclusion. First chapter is focusing on counterfactual historiography and counterfactual fiction, second chapter is focusing on narrative analysis of Peklo Beneš (narrative categories) and third chapter is focusing on thematic analysis, that are main and minor topics, counterfactual events in the history of Czechoslovakia from 1938 to 1989 and science fiction invention of Indinet. This bachelor thesis is based both on professional literature of Lubomír Doležel and Niall Ferguson, and on paper of Erik Gilk, who follow up counterfactual historiography and literature, and on Kubíček, Hrabal, Bílek's professional narratology literature.

Differend and Biopower. Discursive Regulation of Covering Muslim Women in Czech republic

The diploma thesis combines the theoretical concepts of postmodernism and biopower, that are subsequently applied to the particular issue of covering Muslim women living in the Czech Republic. This problem includes the religious, gender, media, social and philosophical level. Each of them is supported by key authors who are experts in this issue. Michel Foucault's concept of biopower, that covers both social and individual bodies through power discourse, interferes with the clothing, that gender attribute, like the Muslim veil, is based on the ideas of Judith Butler. The priority is the ambivalent conception by Jean-François Lyotard, as a kind of conflict, the outlet of which is pluralistic debate. The aim of the thesis is to find a tolerant solution of the current erratic situation in the collision of European and Middle Eastern cultures in the Czech Republic, like wearing the Muslim veil, as the expression of Islam in public with applying Lyotard's demanding ethics of accepting pluralism as an alterity. Issues of Values of Education in Postmodern Society in the Early 21st Century

The aim of the thesis is to outline the issues of current conception of values as moral standards in postmodern society and to identify the consequences of this conception for education. The thesis tries to analyze current pluralist society on the base of literature, which is relevant to given subject. The thesis deals with a question, if and under what conditions is possible to determine socially valid values and if is possible to integrate them into the process of education. The text is divided into two chapters, the first of them deals with issues of postmodern society, pluralism and philosophical deconstruction and tries to indicate relations with education. The second chapter is focused on the problem of values, current educational objectives and the last part of this chapter is focused on the authority of education in current society. Conspiracy theories as quasireligion

Conspiracy theories are an old-new phenomenon which has gained its importance and specific character over the last three centuries. Unofficially, they have become an alternative tradition of the interpretation of historical events connected with an alternative form of spirituality, known as conspirituality. This manner of the interpretation usually holds the power when the consensually accepted worldview loses its plausibility for the concrete person or group. Conspiracy theories are the verbalization of a certain way of thinking and action which depends on it. Most often, they are manifested in the form of myths. That is understood as one of the dominant structures, commonly connected with traditionally perceived religion. From this point of view and in terms of the function associated with conspiracy narratives, conspiracy theories are examined as functional and structural equivalents of religion. These functions are especially the defense of the order (nomos), differentiation of the outer reality or the explanation of the presence of Evil in the world. In addition, they can also become a medium or tool of social actors in power relations. Body, physicality and identity in Fight club novel

This thesis examines the issues of body, embodiment and indentity in relation to the novel Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk. The duality between speech and embodiment is explored in depth, both in the story of the novel and in the author's narrative style. Furthermore, the issue of power in relation to the society as well as towards one's own identity is discussed.

Concept of meaning of life in work of Irvin Yalom as a way how to overcome (post)modern nihilism

This work is about the way we understand the concept of meaning of life. We particularly dwell upon existential analysis of American psychologist Irvin Yalom. We focus on his work as opposition to pessimism and nihilistic moods in nowadays society. In the other part of this work we have described basic concepts connected with the topic meaning of life and philosophical context with emphasis on Fridrich Nietszche's and Albert Camus's work and psychology of Viktor Frankl. The main goal of this work is to find if there is a way out in Yalom's existential analysis in confrontation with postmodern nihilism and feeling of meaningless of human life. Selected Problems of Moral Education in the Contemporary Society

The aim of the bachelor thesis is to analyse the change of value orientation by society evolution since the Enlightenment to the postmodern situation. Next aim is the analysis of the actual state of moral education at school. At first, the thesis focuses attention on the causes of the changes of accents in value sphere, initiated in the Enlightenment and leading to postmodern situation. Furthermore, the thesis resumes the problem of personal moral development, describes the situation of moral education at school and tries to identify these methods of moral education which could be used in the moral education considering the contemporary situation in society and the trends in the value orientation of children and youth. In this context, the thesis also looks for the answer on question, which values are nowadays necessary to be educated.
